Again with the assumptions about me? I don't watch television. I read history. Ever hear of lend-lease? The Soviets got a huge amount of their arms and equipment because FDR put American factories to work building a war machine that could defeat Germany. And essentially provided it to Stalin at no cost. No one country won that war but without American intervention the outcome may well have been much different.
The oil industry wouldn't exist without government incentives. And there would be no interstate to drive those cars on. There would be no public education without government intervention. Computers would be nowhere without military spending. Ditto for the airline industry.
I'm not advocating for the government running everything. I never have been. That's another right wing talking point about liberals that's a flat out lie.
Capitalism has been the greatest force for wealth creation in history. But it becomes a world of monopolies and exploitation in an unregulated environment (think ten year old kids working in sweatshops or coal miners with black lung disease). A functional government creates an environment where innovation and growth can thrive while protecting the rights of its citizens. Sometimes it requires a light hand and sometimes it need to be a little bit heavier.
Take your libertarian blinders off and recognize that it takes good government and a strong well regulated private sector to make a world that works for everyone. It's not as simple or as easy as "drown government in a bathtub".
We currently don't have good government. We haven't had anything close to that in forty years. I don't know how old you are, but I was alive when the civil rights bill was passed. And the right began their takeover of government soon after that. And yes the government people see now doesn't work very well. Coincidentally, the right has been running (and trying to destroy it) for most of that time.
There's a lot of nuance between where you are and where I am but blanket statements about "getting the government out of my business" doesn't help to make the world a better place. Without government we'd live in a far more dangerous and much less free country. It's already more dangerous and less free for a lot of people than it was when I was in my youth.
