I think the secret to overcoming satisfaction is to not stay in the same place. Physically, mentally, emotionally, intellectually, etc. Just move. Try something you’ve never done before. Yoga, acupuncture, a new language. Take up intarsia, or glass blowing. Anything really, there’s more to do than can ever be done and more to learn than can ever be learned.
Pack up and move to a small village in Greenland for a couple of months. Or Japan. With money to burn, there’s absolutely no excuse for remaining “satisfied”. Unless that’s what you want to do. You just have to learn to present yourself with a problem to solve since there are no financial, cultural or real societal borders to box you in given enough cash. Even physical disabilities are not a hard limit. Look at what Stephen Hawking accomplished, with just his mind.
Remaining “satisfied” is just laziness if there are no other actual barriers. And really, there’s nothing wrong with that, if that’s what you choose to do. I’m not saying your friend here is complaining but it sounds a little like it. And the fact is, it’s something they have complete control over given the lack of financial constraints. It just comes down to a lack of imagination.
