There's an entire class of people whose entire net worth is tied up in other people's debt.
But the real issue holding back the realization of your dream is that if people actually were able to live on what they earned, none of them would continue to work for companies that pay shit wages. The Walmarts of the world would close up shop and the stock market would crash. All the elites living off other people's hard work would have to work themselves. That's why they fight against the idea of a balanced budget, for the nation as well as for the individual.
Personally, I think we could bring on a new Renaissance if we relieved the bulk of humanity from the toil of survival mode. But people who can't imagine something better will always hold us back.
